Published Titles –Submission and
Marketing Guidelines
An Important Part of Our Mission
As part of its commitment to promote quality science fiction,
fantasy, and action-adventure comics for general audiences, as well
as help talented up-and-coming creators enter the comics industry,
Atlantis has as part of its marketing plan to publish 1-2 original
titles each month for distribution to book retailers and the
specialty comics market. Because of the significant costs of selling
to these markets, Atlantis will not publish more than 2 titles a
month for the foreseeable future.
Content Guidelines
We are specifically interested in general audience science fiction,
fantasy, and action-adventure, with content that would not exceed a
film’s ‘PG-13’ rating or ‘T’ rating on video games. We typically
will not consider superhero, horror, western, or other genres
outside our area of interest. We will not publish excessive or
unnecessary profanity, explicit gore, nudity, sexual content.
We are especially interested in promoting the work of female
artists, and encouraging their participation in the dynamic (but
male-dominated!) world of comics. Submissions by teams that include
female artists will receive special consideration.
Submission Guidelines
All submissions should include a completed, inked and lettered, full
color or black and white full-length comics or graphic novels ready
for publication and be sent via regular mail to: Atlantis Studios,
Submissions, 2 Emerson Way, Franklin, MA 02038. A typical submission
should include the following:
• Cover letter with contact information
• 1-Page Synopsis of the Comic and/or Series Proposal
• Sample Cover Art (in color)
• Sample pages (complete comic)
Royalty Contract
Submissions accepted for publication will receive a Publishing
Contract that guarantees the Creative Team a 50/50 split of all
profits generated from the publication of the comic, after costs of
printing (typically between $2,000-$3,000) and distribution set-up
and promotion. Royalties are paid monthly at the first of the month,
based on net profit generated from the book.
Publishing Format and Cut-Off
Atlantis retains complete discretion as to timing and design of
marketing/promotion and publication format. Books with pre-orders
under 1,000 copies may be printed using digital printing methods,
rather than traditional offset.
